vodkandlime: (swancon thirty six)
[personal profile] vodkandlime
A message from Fe, who is coordinating Swancon Thirty Six's family stream.

I'm putting together the Family Program (the kid-focussed stuff), and I'm looking for people who would be willing to come and spend half an hour (or more, but the sessions are mostly half an hour) to run an activity with the kids. I'm also looking for crafty materials.

Materials we're after:
A number of the sessions we're running need 'rubbish' craft materials. Any donations of cardboard tubes (from gladwrap/paper towel etc), or smallish cardboard boxes, plastic tubs etc, would be _most_ gratefully received! I will try to have a large container just by the room, so you can drop them there.

People I'm looking for:
Readers
People who would be willing to read (I can provide some suggestions of _what_ to read if needed! But I'd rather share the actual reading load around to save voices!)

Artists
People who can draw... I have three sessions where I was hoping to have someone come and do a couple of drawings (sketches, quick things:-) ) and talk through how you go about it. Loosely, I had thought of 'Robots and Machines', 'Dinosaurs, Dragons and Monsters' and 'Zombies' as topics for each session, but that is _not_ set in stone:-) I'm hoping that the kids will watch and listen, but also draw their own things at the same time.

Improvisers
People to lead 'creative discussions' (that may also involve some crafty construction). There are a couple of 'How would you go about this' discussions, where a 'theatrical' leader would be helpful. One a vaguely science type topic, one a fantasy type one.

Heraldist
Someone who knows a bit about heraldry. I'd like to have the kids 'build a coat of arms' (colouring and collage), but it would be nice to have someone who knows the topic to lead them:-)

Gamers
Someone into Gaming. I'd like the kids to 'build a game', whether that's a card game/board game/something else (and will quite likely be taking something kind of familiar and adapting it... to make it a short enough activity!), but someone who is into games would be great to lead the process. (This is an hour long session.)

Crafty types
I have a couple of paper based activities (paper planes and paper models), where someone who is reasonably capable with their hands would be helpful:-)

There are a number of other sessions that don't necessarily require specific skills, so if you'd like to volunteer to spend half an hour in the room, I can match you with something more general :-)

Or! If you were feeling particularly enthused and had your own idea of a session that you'd like to offer (most of the kids are probably between 6 and 12, with slightly more at the lower end of that), I'd love to hear from you :-)

Thanks for any help!

Email Fe to offer your assistance or get more information. We will have our family program up online very soon. Stay tuned!
